Environmental pollution has become an unavoidable byproduct of human civilization creating great obstacles for safe and healthy living on earth. For environmental pollution humans are becoming affected with different kinds of fatal diseases, and consequently facing unfortunate premature deaths. Almost all the cosmopolitan cities in the world are more or less affected by pollution, but the level of pollution in Dhaka city has crossed all tolerable limits and has reached its highest extent. Air and water are two of the most important elements of nature, and these two elements are extremely polluted in Dhaka city. The emissions of different kinds of harmful gases in the atmosphere from motor vehicles, mills and factories, brick fields, railway engines etc makes the air of Dhaka polluted. Due to air pollution people of this capital city are suffering from pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma and other respiratory diseases. School going children are found to be the worst victims of air pollution. Similarly, water, another vital element of nature, is also seriously polluted in Dhaka. The tannery industries situated at Hajaribag are mostly responsible for the pollution of the river Buriganga. Besides, Water vehicles plying in the rivers, Tu rag and Buriganga are also responsible for severe water pollution. By drinking polluted water people get affected with different kinds of water-borne diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, jaundice etc. People of Dhaka city are also exposed to noise and odor pollution. By raising great awareness among mass people and taking some stern actions against the law breakers the pollution of Dhaka can be lessened.
